Keeping The Lights Off?

Psalm 119:105 - Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Have you ever been in a position where your room is so dirty that you keep the lights off? You allow just enough light in so that you don't hurt yourself by tripping over all of the clutter. Perhaps you turn the light on just long enough for you to get dressed, and then shut it off and seal the door. Its amazing how darkness conceals garbage, but in reality garbage remains...even if you do not see it.
When my daughter was between the ages of one and two, she loved to play peek-a-boo with me. My wife later told me that my daughter enjoyed the game because in her mind, I would really disappear when she placed her hands over her eyes. My daughter did not yet reach the developmental stage of understanding that reality exists beyond what she sees.
Many people struggle with this undeveloped spiritual concept when it pertains to their lives. People may feel that if they do not address their sinful lifestyle, then it does not exist. I am reminded by what Paul wrote in his letter to the church in Galatia, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (Galatians 6:7)." Just because we do not see the seed in the ground, does not mean that something is not growing. Whatever is sown, will eventually break through the unseen. We deceive ourselves when we do not address the painful issues in our lives. Its easier to change the subject. Its easier to shift the blame. Its easier
to temporarily forget about our situation by having a "good" time. Its easier to deal with life when you do not have to be reminded about the clutter and disfunction of your "room". Its "easier"...but its all deception. Its a cruel peek-a-boo game that robs us of our lives and eternity. Its time to get our rooms clean.
Psalm 119:105 states that the Word of God is a lamp and a light. The greatest enemy to darkness is light. Light reveals. It does not judge...it reveals. Its foolish to argue with your lamp because your room is dirty. The lamp is only revealing what is already there. Once the Word reveals how dirty your room is, you can then call on Jesus for help to straighten things out. Jesus is not like that vindictive older brother that will throw some of his dirty clothes into your room, just to frustrate you...(ahem!!), but instead he is that one person that you can count on to help you sort things out. He will equip you. He will empower you. He will be your present help in the time of your need. Stop running from your dirt...turn the light on and by the grace of God, let's clean this mess up.
